NYC Public Schools require full-time school attendance for all children ages 6 to 17, expect a minimum 90% attendance rate, and mandate that schools contact families for every unexplained absence.

Excused vs. Unexcused: Absences can be marked excused for illness, family emergencies, religious observances, or medical appointments. However, all excused absences remain on the permanent record and count toward your child's year-to-date (YTD) absence rate

Chronic Absenteeism: Falling below a 90% attendance rate (missing 10% or more of the school year) categorizes a student as chronically absent, which triggers administrative follow-up

Grading and Promotion: Attendance can factor into academic class grades, but poor attendance alone cannot be the sole reason for a failing grade, grade retention, or denying graduation

Daily Storage: In alignment with state education mandates, Bronx Alliance Middle School requires all middle school students to store their personal electronics securely for the day. Devices must either be locked in designated campus lockers or placed in school-provided storage systems upon arrival.

Allowed Technology: The policy strictly impacts personal electronics. Students will continue to use school-issued technology, such as school Chromebooks and iPads, for their classroom instructional activities.

Contacting Your Child: Because students cannot access their personal devices at lunch, during passing periods, or in hallways, families must contact the school's main office directly to relay any urgent messages or handle emergency situations.

Approved Policy Exceptions: Exceptions are strictly limited to pre-authorized medical tracking (such as continuous glucose monitors), language translation tools, or specific accommodations outlined in a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan.

Please note: At Bronx Alliance, cell phones are collected and stored safely upon entry each morning. They are returned to leaders at the end of the school day. 

​

In the event a leader is found with their cell phone, it will be confiscated. The cell phone will be returned ONLY to a legal guardian/parent at the end of the school day. It will not be returned to the leader.

The Bronx Alliance Middle School Dress Code is an important part of our school culture, and instills our core values in our leaders. Wearing a uniform is a badge of pride, creates an identity for a school, and is an important part of being a school leader. Uniforms show that you are part of our community.

There are three middle schools in our campus. In the event of an emergency, a school uniform helps us to immediately identify our leaders.
